We’re part of a small, but fast growing collection of small inns – Thwaites Inns of Character.
Having acquired the hotel in April 2011, Thwaites, the Lancashire based brewery have spent the last 12 months completely refurbishing all 28 guest rooms and the ground floor. The Fleece now takes its place as the first Thwaites Inns of Character outside of the northern heartlands.
We’ve got some fantastic sister properties up and down the country, and we’ve ambitious plans for development too – so do keep checking back to see our latest additions to the fold or register for our newsletter here.

Accessibility
If you’re visiting The Fleece and not quite as sprightly as you used to be, we hope you’ll find the information below a help in planning your visit.
- We do have limited parking on site, however there is a pay and display 5 minutes’ walk from us. However if you need to drop people off you are more than welcome to do at the front of the building.
- All the doors in to the main building are double doors to allow ease of access in a wheelchair.
- The bar is on one level and has no step access from the front door, but there are small steps down to the lounge and dining room, from the bar and from the rear entrance.
- Lighting throughout is ‘atmospheric’ – but many tables are close to the window with increased natural daylight
- We have a supply of reading glasses behind the bar, and can provide large print menus
- We’re happy to serve ‘small’ portions of any of our dishes so as not to over face those with smaller appetites
And last but not least, we’ll try to ascertain any special requests when you make a reservation with us so that we’re prepared for your arrival.
